The Effect of Using Prophylactic G-CSF during
Chemotherapy on the Outcome of Children with Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Background: Indications for the use of Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factors
(G-CSF) have so far been suggested to prevent febrile neutropenia, as well provide
support for intensive chemotherapy. However, the long-term consequences of its use
in children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), especially in the time-sequenced
setting, are not yet well understood.
Materials and Methods: Children with newly
diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia ALL in Ali Asghar Children’s Hospital were
randomly assigned to two groups. Patients in both groups underwent chemotherapy
according to the ALL IC-BFM 2002 protocol. Patients in Group A were supported in
