    Nutraceutical effects of Mediterranean citrus extracts in dysglycemia: a pilot study

    Background: Dysglycemia is a subclinical condition of altered glucose levels (intermediate hyperglycaemia), considered as a high-risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Lifestyle change, including diet and exercise, along with the management of blood glucose levels is the primary prevention of diabetes. Aim: In this clinical study, we investigated the potential role of a nutraceutical compound, based on Mediterranean citrus extracts, in regulating blood glucose in dysglycemic adults. Material and Methods: 40 adults with dysglycemia (100-125 mg/dl) were instructed to take a food supplement based on 460 mg Lemotrin® complex plus 100 µg chromium picolinate, 1 tablet twice a day during main meals for 12 weeks, in addition to general indications of a Mediterranean diet, maintaining overall constant dietary habits.
